Aquaculture, also known as aqua farming, is the farming of aquatic organisms such as fish, crustaceans, mollusks and aquatic plants. Aquaculture involves cultivating freshwater and saltwater populations under controlled conditions, and can be contrasted with commercial fishing, which is the harvesting of wild fish.

Many of the fish that you find in market today like Salmon or Tilapia are either partially or totally the product of Aqua Farming.  The more we continue to pollute our oceans and change temperatures through Global Warming the more necessary these farms will be to keep these protein resources in our diets.  Aquaculture can also be used to preserve endangered species, although not all endangered species can thrive in a captive environment.  These farms can be above ground or on lake or sea.
